Ron Paul: Global warming flip-flop

Ron Paul remained silent on the issue of climate science throughout the early stages of the 2012 election, but on November 30, 2011 his presidential campaign denied the scientific consensus on man-made global warming in a statement announcing the release of a new online ad targeting Newt Gingrich:
Much of the ad is in the former Speaker’s own voice, and after a few statements by Newt it follows with an image of him sitting on a loveseat beside former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the two chuckling over their agreement concerning as-yet scientifically proven anthropogenic global warming.

Gingrich has come under frequent fire from climate change deniers for his obvious flip-flop on global warming. Now it appears as though Ron Paul himself flip-flopped on the issue. The Texas Congressman’s own fan site provides his quotes on the subject from three separate interviews, one from 2008 and two from 2009.

In 2008, Ron Paul had this to say about global warming:
It is clear that the earth experiences natural cycles in temperature. However, science shows that human activity probably does play a role in stimulating the current fluctuations.
By 2009, Paul was singing a different tune:
The greatest hoax I think that has been around for many, many years if not hundreds of years has been this hoax on [...] global warming.”
It might turn out to be one of the biggest hoaxes of all history, this whole global warming terrorism that they’ve been using, but we’ll have to just wait and see, but it cannot be helpful.
Naturally, RonPaul.com chalks this radical change in position up to "additional consideration and analysis" on the part of their candidate.

Still, the language employed by his campaign in November suggests that Paul is at least open to the idea that anthropogenic global warming can be proven.

  1. This is not evidence of a flip flop. Stating that science shows human activity "probably does" stimulate the current fluctuations is not the same as saying humans are causing global warming in any real direct or long lasting way. Is this the best that can be found on stance changes by Ron Paul? If so, he really is a consistent candidate.

But we all know Earth goes through her own cycles, regardless of what human activity takes place. Ron Paul realizes this.

    1. yes I agree, Paul has been consistent about this issue...consistently wrong. The idea that global warming is a hoax is ridiculous.

    2. you haven't done your homework. This is the second recorded time the earth has gone through a warming trend.
The first time was well before the industrial revolution and was more severe than this one.
It is truly a hoax and has made many libs very rich of which Al Gorey is the wealthiest.
You're an Anonymous idiot. No wonder you withheld your name

  2. There is a huge difference between the global warming theory and the question of whether humans can and do impact the climate. One relies upon the unproven theory that carbon atoms cause climate change, the other relies upon proven empirical evidence that humans can impact the climate.

  3. During that time, weren't the people in Europe basically
discovered "distorting" the real truth about it all. And good ol' "AL" was "exposed?" That "AL" that was FOR the oil industry, fossil fuels etc. BEFORE he was against them...CRAFTY...$$$$ on both "sides of the aisle." There is no mention of that in this coverage. It may be akin to "weapons of mass destruction" and the LIE that there weren't any....Just a "false flag" to drag the U>S into another war to "take out S. Hussein" who "we" originally "put in power?" Yes? or NO?

We put 'em in, we take 'em out....is that like the nursery rhyme, "PUT YOUR LITTLE FOOT?"

  4. The Berkley Earth Suface Temperature group, created in response to "climategate" and funded by prominent global warming skeptics, has recently confirmed that global warming is real. Do you hear that? It has been independently verified by people who set out to prove it wrong. How much more evidence do you need?

    1. No kidding Sherlock... a warming trend in the earth's atmosphere isn't what's at question here. It's whether man is a major influence in that warming. Trust me ... he's not. It's an ego trip by those who think mankind is so powerful that our little cars and factories can ruin the world.
When squeezed up against each other right side by side, all the carbon producing cars, planes, trucks, ships, factories and cows in the world can fit into the state of Texas. Now pick up a globe, swallow your idiotic pride and tell me that that tiny spec on the planet pumping out all that Co2 can "destroy the planet". You're all a bunch of goof ball money grabbing, tax loving, eco nutcases.

    2. Well stated....and I agree with that statement 90%.... You make the assumption that money grabbing, tax loving is a motive. Some people just plain dont pay attention to the facts and are not interested in the money or the taxes. They are just plain ignorant of the facts.
