Representative Mike Pence (R-IN) has decided not to run for president in 2012. He broke the news to supporters via email yesterday afternoon, according the Los Angeles Times.
Pence stood little chance of winning the 2012 presidential election. Only one sitting member of the U.S. House of Representatives has been elected president. That was James Garfield way back in 1881. Still, presidential campaigns have provided some of the House’s more animated members with the opportunity to build nationwide networks of supporters, a la Dennis Kucinich in 2004 and Ron Paul in 2008.
